Patients, a modern ballet performed at the National Ballet of Finland, is based on the poems from Juha Vakkuri’s “Puolarmetsän puut” (2003) themed around ageing, sickness and death. Seven patients voice their past, present and future. The patients look at themselves through time and space in a moving set built from mirrors. The ballet emphasizes that we all have our particular personal histories and views of the world, it criticizes conformity in our society, the sick and the aging are treated as objects rather than respected members of our species.
The Ballets premiere was at the Finnish National Ballet 7.11.2008
